The problem with links

When you send someone a bare link — no greeting, no explanation, no indication of why you thought they'd care — you're outsourcing all of the work to them. You found something. Great. Now you're making it their problem to figure out what it is, why it matters, and what you expect them to do with it.

It takes about ten seconds to write a sentence. "Hey, thought you'd find this interesting — it's about X." That's it. That's all. That single sentence transforms a link drop into an actual communication between two human beings.
